Who can Benefit from Our Services?

A growing number of people, faced with the stresses of modern-day living, are turning to Psychologists for help with their personal problems. Such problems may occur in one or more settings such as at home, at school, at work, or simply in the everyday business of getting along with other people.

It can sometimes be difficult for an individual to recognize or acknowledge the fact that help is needed. If you, or someone you are concerned about, is experiencing problems in these areas, some thought should be given to seeking psychological help.

Psychologists deal with personal problems, and are extensively trained in assessment and treatment. They are health professionals, regulated by provincial statues, and governed by the College of Psychologists of Ontario.

The Psychologists at the Harbour Centre can see individuals of all ages from young children to adults. Many individuals are seen on a one-to-one basis, but a whole family may come for help. A treatment session with a Psychologist usually lasts about fifty minutes. During treatment, the Psychologist works with the individual/ family to better understand the problems, and together to find ways to resolve them. Psychological testing may also be carried out to provide additional diagnostic information. It is difficult to state how many sessions treatment will take, as each case is different. Some treatments may take a few sessions, but others may take longer.
